We spent Wednesday morning doing lots of baking, but not the kind of baking you’d expect on the holidays.. we made homemade dog biscuits!
Pathways residents were quite amused when we told them what exactly we were going to be baking. The recipe requires only a few ingredients and is very easy to follow; the biscuits are made using whole wheat flour, pumpkin puree, peanut butter, and eggs. Residents helped measure, mix, roll, and cut the dough into little gingerbread men and maple leaf shapes. We had to keep reminding ourselves that the biscuits were for dogs, as the mouthwatering aroma slowly wafted through the room!
After baking dozens of dog biscuits, we carefully arranged them on a platter to take with us on our outing to Dakin Animal Shelter in Springfield, MA. We will be donating the homemade biscuits, cat toys, fleece no-sew blanket, and even a pumpkin pie for all of the caring staff at the animal shelter. This has been a really great opportunity to involve all of the residents at East Village Place in such a charitable event.
If you’d like to try making these at home, check out the recipe here!
