Out and About: Friendly’s Ice Cream

No matter what age you are, Friendly’s Ice Cream is always a wonderful treat to enjoy with friends. Residents from Our Place and Pathways visited the popular restaurant in West Springfield to taste some of their signature dishes. While a few residents sampled some of the newer additions to the menu, others preferred the good old classics, like a bowl of chicken noodle soup or a grilled cheese.

The first “Friendly” ice cream shop was founded and built in 1935 in Springfield, Massachusetts. Prestley and Curtis Blake—the two brothers that founded Friendly’s—strived to create delectable ice cream while delivering the best service to their loyal customers. For many people growing up and living in the Pioneer Valley, Friendly’s has an air of nostalgia that brings back fond memories of family and
friends.

A few residents enjoying their classic “Fribble” milkshakes and reminisced about going to Friendly’s with friends and family in the past. While others preferred ice cream all by itself in a dish or on a cone and others chose to get sundaes covered with decadent hot fudge, sprinkles, and of course a cherry on top! Everyone had a wonderful time and enjoyed the snowy scenery while passing through West Springfield.
