Whether or not residents were of Irish heritage, it’s safe to say we all had a blast celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day over the span of several days! On Friday, residents participated in a baking demonstration of homemade Irish Soda Bread; we even churned our own butter to generously spread on the fresh, warm bread. While everyone enjoyed the treat, they took a virtual trip to Ireland and learned all about the history, geography, climate, and lots of fun facts. Residents especially enjoyed viewing clips of traditional Irish step-dancing, particularly the tiny dancing children! On Sunday, residents baked cupcakes with Sterling and then helped frost them while listening to classic Irish tunes such as “Danny Boy” and “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling.” The following day, residents enjoyed live musical entertainment from Tony Rarus, who belted out some Irish favorites.
After dinner on Tuesday, residents gathered for a fun-filled evening at the Saint Patrick’s Day Party! Jeff from Dining Services put together a beautiful spread of mouth-watering treats including shamrock cookies, delicious chocolate fudge brownies, and green frosted cupcakes. We had a wonderful live music performance by Willie & Jan Nininger, whose set list was composed of songs Willie had performed on his recent trip to Ireland! We even had a hysterical dancing leprechaun doing an Irish jig throughout the show! Our Community Life Director, Diana, wore her favorite seasonal costume which was not only an intriguing optical illusion, but also caused a great deal of laughter! Be sure to check out the video of Diana and the leprechaun dancing to The Dubliners hit “The Black Velvet Band” with the very spunky, one-and-only Shirley Knox!
Until next year, may the Luck o’ the Irish be with you all!
